COVID-19 Pandemic: Challenges, Impacts and Dilemmas in Surgical Oncology (Descriptive Longitudinal Study)

Background: The oncologic surgery patients constitute a highly susceptible group during COVID-19 pandemic. Aim: To determine how the pandemic affected cases of surgical oncology, their frequency with reference to pre-pandemic era and challenges faced in general management Methodology: we conducted descriptive longitudinal study, using consecutive non-probability sampling technique, estimating number cancer our center, protocols keeping view local international guidelines, resource availability dynamics surgery. Results: received total 63 from 1st march-31st august 2020, between age groups 29-70 years. 40 out those presented complications early definitive surgery, where could not be deferred due course disease or complications. Rest 20 either neoadjuvant chemotherapy, palliative procedure chemoradiotherapy, 2 tested positive, 1 non-cancer related mortality. We 6 months study time, compared 156 period, showing significant decrease cases. Conclusion: Cancer chance upgradation stage delay complicated obstruction bleeding deferred. Mandatory PCR testing every admitted patient repeat test 48-72 hours before Early referral corona care center if tests positive. Discussion case MDM prior decision making. Operating complete SOPs.
